January 2006

Hi everyone,

Our great 2005 was going to be hard year to follow after Drum Club appeared on television as part of July's Live8 concert but, I think we might have
topped it as...

On Monday April 17th Drum Club will appear at Reading's Madjeski Stadium to play in front of 20,000 people.

The stadium, which hosted Elton John last May, is of course home to Reading Football Club and it is at half time at the match on April 17th that we will be playing.

Reading are currently top of the league and if all goes well, for us as well as The Royals, we hope to be entertaining the likes of Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Thierry Henry next year as well as half of Reading.

Tickets are available from Reading F.C.'s website and I hope to see some of you there.

Tony.

As Seen on TV

Hi, its July 2005 and many exciting things are happening and have happened to Drumclub since my last post.

Firstly, we've had our first outing into the world of mass media when we appeared on ITV as part of The MAKE POVERTY HISTORY campaign. Playing in Watlington on July 1st the TV cameras turned up and filmed Drumclub playing various African pieces which appeared on the evening news later that day.

Drum Club have a pretty busy second half of July lined up, playing three gigs:

  1. The first is supporting the band The Light Years in a Live8 style concert at Langtree School, Woodcote on July 18th at 8pm
  2. Then we play a wedding on the afternoon of Saturday 23rd playing a specially composed piece for the bride and groom.
  3. Finally on Sunday 24th we play at the Tsunami relief concert on the banks of The River Thames in Henley.

Directions for all three concerts can be found below, and I hope to see you at one or more of the shows.

Tony.

Directions

Langtree: follow A4074 out of Reading for 5 miles until you reach red and white bollards in the road.
Turn left towards Woodcote, the school is 400yrds on the left.

Bix Manor: Take the 'Fairmile' road from Henley to Wallingford. When the road turns into a dual-carriageway turn LEFT (not right into Bix village).
The manor is the 4th turning on the left. Follow DRUMCLUB signs for parking.

Henley: Drive into Henley from Reading. Pass Tesco on your right. Turn right just after The Murco garage, go over the railway bridge and turn left at the football club- Drumclub will be performing by the river.

January 2004

Happy New Year everyone, as you can see Drumclub have been hard at work recording our new CD 'Tabla Dub' and having photos taken with face paint in UV light.
The whole session was great fun and the new CD is selling well (see below for more details on that).

The piece 'Gladiator' from our first CD was used at The National Youth dance championships heats last week...and won!! And will now be played at the finals at The Swan, High Wycombe. More details about that as and when it arrives.

Drumclub rehearsals started in earnest this week with both snare teams from Icknield and Langtree Schools trying to out-do each other for comical comeback to Tony's barked orders...glad to see things are getting back to normal after the heady days of the recording studio.

New Year 7 and 8 signings in the winter transfer window has swelled DC's ranks full of first rate girl drummers again (Meg White could learn a thing or two from them for sure) and it's good to see the Year 5 and 6 gents from Shiplake getting in on the recording, I look forward to them joining us for some summer festival shows.

Enjoy the site and see you at one of our shows soon.

Tony.

December 2003
Hi, it's nearly Christmas and Drumclub have, just in the nick of time, come up with the perfect christmas stocking gift.... THE NEW DRUMCLUB CD SINGLE.

With this, our second single, we have delved into the world of textural, subtle percussion. Tabla, steel pans, brushes and djembas have all been used as well as incorporating the trademark "earsplitting" volume normally associated with a Drumclub performance.

If you were at one of our performances during the summer you may recognise the pieces 'Kick, Hat, Snare' and 'Tabla Dub' (the latter being easily the
most complicated and intricate piece attempted by Drumclub to date) and a brand new piece called 'Rumble in the Jungle'

The single is available NOW for the very reasonable price of £4. Contact Tony for more details.

Since my last post Drumclub have also been involved in a production with T.A.P.S. (Trad. Arts Project) playing African grooves and steel pans for folk dancers and we have played at a number of traditional Drumclub gigs
around Oxfordshire.

Have a great Christmas

See you in the New Year. Tony.

September 2003
So it’s September 2003, time to dig the woollies out, dust down the back-to-school drumstick bag and keep those vague, but well meaning, promises about up-dating the Drum club web-site more often.

Since we spoke in, ..er.. , January DC have done 11 gigs. Among the best being the 3 shows we played in one day at The Woodcote Steam Rally and The Watlington Fate performing to around 300 people.

We played gigs in as unlikely venues as churches, primary schools and rock festivals, debuted our two new pieces ‘Kick, Hat, Snare’ and ‘Tabla Dub’, plus shot a video for ‘Blue Peter’. Drum Club also performed for and were interviewed on commercial radio.

The single is still selling well and we have plans to finally take over the world with a new single out in time for the Christmas number 1 slot.

Those of you familiar with the site will notice some minor changes (including a rather cheesy photo of me). However, if it’s your first time, welcome to the site and please leave a message on the new message board.

See you soon, Tony

January 2003

Our new CD single is hot off the presses and we're all very pleased with it! I hope you will download and listen to sections of it via our brand new MP3 link installed this month, or purchase the real thing via the contacts page.

Plans to get drumclub onto the telly and play lots more festivals this year are being put into action as we speak.

If you have visited us here before I hope you'll like the new look to the site and pay a visit to the new members profiles section.

I hope you enjoy the site and I look forward to seeing you at one of our shows soon.

Happy New Year!
